James D. Rogers, 79, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Pickerington, OH. He was born on June 9, 1937 inTupelo, MS to James L. and Emma J. Rogers.
James is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Dee Rogers; one sister in New York; step-daughters, Victoria Barrow and Veronica (Calvin) Jones; step-son, James Barrow; grandson, Jibri Jones and many other loving family members and friends.
James loved anything mechanical, and started as an Aircraft Mechanic in the United States Air Force. He went on to work at Pan-American Airlines and was proud to be one of the first African-American Aircraft Mechanics. The last twelve years of his life, he worked for the New York Transit Authority as an Aircraft Mechanic until his retirement in 2010. James and Dee attended Brooklyn Tabernacle under the leadership of Jim Cymbala for eleven years during their life in New York. They then attended Time Square Church under the leadership of David Wilkerson. James was a member of the Full Gospel Men's Prayer Fellowship. After James and Dee moved to Columbus, OH in 2010 they began volunteering at Bethel World Prayer Center in Pataskala, OH under the leadership of Greg and Gene Speich.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231. A private family graveside service will be held at Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel World Prayer Center, PO Box 30306 Columbus, OH 43230 in James' honor.
