James "Jim" Earl Tindell, 92, of Grove City, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 29, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 16, 1930 in Dothan, Alabama and with twin sister Johnie Murl Tindell (Clark) was the oldest of seven children: Maxwell Randolph, George Randolph, Sybol Faye, Carolyn Sue and Charles Hugh born to George Henry Tindell and Fannie Lou (Parsons) Tindell.
James and his family relocated to Columbus, GA when he was a young child. His parents worked as laborers in a local cotton mill and when he was 16, he also began working at the mill to help support his family. He joined the Air Force when he was 18 and served in the Korean War in Okinawa. While serving in the military, he rose to the rank of Sargent and was also able to earn his GED. When he returned to the United States, he was stationed at Rickenbacker Air Force Base and relocated to Columbus, Ohio.
After serving his country, Jim went on to study business at Bliss College in Columbus and subsequently was hired as a data processer with the State of Ohio in the Department of Administrative Services. During the early days of his career, he worked on the more ancient computer systems where he had to hand-wire the machines for various programming functions. Anyone who knew him back then would remember the stack of blank IBM computer punch cards he carried around for taking notes. Jim was a dedicated and hard-working state employee and eventually became a manager over Financial Systems Development dealing with agency monies and budgets and supervised a team of developers. Later, he transferred to the Ohio Health Department where he worked as a Systems Analyst and managed various programming and large-scale data management projects. After 30 years, he was able to retire and spent much of his newfound time perfecting his golf game and his moves on the (ballroom) dance floor. He also spent time managing and working on his rental properties. To escape the Ohio winters, he and his wife, Sandy, became snowbirds in sunny Melbourne, Florida where they enjoyed golfing, shopping and spending time with good friends.
Jim is survived by daughters/sons-in-law: Lyla (Tindell) and Jim Damopoulos, Sherry (Tindell) Milburn, Cynthia (Tindell) Steele and Susan (Stone) and Rick Korecki. He is also survived by grandchildren: Scott Damopoulos, Timothy (Juli) Damopoulos, Brandon Damopoulos, Ryan Milburn, James (Leslie) Milburn, Noel (Milburn) and Chris Kimmel, Melissa Milburn, Kenneth Steele, Jenny (Steele) and Chase Carter, Alex and Holly (Fuller) Tindell, Lauren (Korecki) and Josh Moretz and Avery Korecki as well as numerous great grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Sandra Lee (Bottman) Tindell; son, Christopher James Tindell; great-grandson, Tyler James Steele as well as his parents and all of his siblings.
Jim personified the love of God and family. Throughout much of his adult life, he participated in regular Bible study with the Dawn Bible Students. He had a kind heart, a gentle spirit and was always trying to help others. There was no doubt that he wanted the very best for his children and grandchildren and was always there should anyone be in need.
