Janet Busch

March 27, 1933 — August 19, 2022

Janet was born in Ames, Iowa to Melvin and Fern Abbott. She was the sixth of nine children. Janet graduated from Ames High School where she excelled in art, music and dance. Pretty, vivacious and popular, Janet won the Miss Story County contest and placed third runner-up in the Miss Iowa contest in 1954.

Janet attended Iowa State University where she studied Home Economics and was also a varsity cheerleader. It was at Iowa State that Janet met her husband, Joseph Busch at an Iowa State vs. Nebraska football game. They were married on December 29th, 1956.

Janet and Joe lived briefly in Alexandria, Virginia while Joe was in the army and then moved to Madison, Wisconsin for a few years before settling in Warren, Ohio where they spent over 30 years and raised their 4 children. They left Warren in 1991 moving to their current home in Gahanna, Ohio a suburb of Columbus.

Janet was always very active in the local arts community, first at the Trumbull Art Guild in Warren and later at the Columbus Museum of Art where she was a member of the Beaux Arts Auxiliary for many years including a term as president.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Fern (Thompson) Abbott, siblings Jim (Rosie), Bob, Betty (Gene Rullestad), Beverly (Ted Birdseye), Alan, Barbara (Johnson) and Joyce (Conrad Berhow) and is survived by her husband, Joseph, son Jim & wife Diane Busch, daughter Barbara & husband David Celek, daughter Elizabeth & husband Kevin Craig, son Steven & wife Kim Busch, granddaughters Grace & Gwen Craig, Ashley & Gillian Busch, brother Chuck Abbott, sister-in-law Mary Kay (Alan) Abbott and brother-in-law Vic (Barbara) Johnson.

Janet had a personality and spirit that was uniquely all her own. She was a fiercely loyal, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was many things over her lifetime - artist, dancer, secretary, office manager, dedicated volunteer, poet, sister, daughter, confidant, giver of sage advice, improviser and comedienne. She loved to make people laugh. Family and friends have many memories of her silly antics causing laughter to the point of breathlessness. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten by all of those whose lives she touched. We thank God for ending her earthly pain and welcoming her into Heaven.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Friday September 9, 2022, at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church; 807 Havens Corners Rd, Columbus, OH 43230.
