Jerome "Jerry" Charles Gedert

November 2, 1948 — February 27, 2025

Columbus, Ohio

Jerome (Jerry) Charles Gedert, age 76 of Columbus, Ohio passed away as a result of complications from his long battle with Huntington’s Disease. Survived by his high school sweet heart and wife, Susan (Norris) Gedert; his younger sister, Mary Ann (McCoy), his three boys Christopher Charles, Matthew Charles (Tonya, Corey & Marcus), and Jeremy Troy (Kellie, Cassandra, Milo), as well as his three great-grandchildren; Seth, Charlie, & Marcus.

Jerry was a constant presence in the lives of his family members especially through his love language of “Help and Service”. You could always count on Jerry for a ride, help with home and car repairs, babysitting (although it wasn’t recommended), and exhaustive dissertations on the subtle nuances of bass fishing. He loved being around family and friends, at least when he wasn’t duck hunting or fishing. Two activities which were passed down from his father, Donald; and shared with each of Jerry’s three sons, who received them with varying degrees of interest. If you ever had the opportunity to fish with Jerry you understood that severe weather was almost guaranteed to follow, however, actually catching fish was less certain.

Beginning with a job as a paperboy when he was younger, Jerry moved up to District Manager and continued to work for the local newspaper for 42 years; first with Columbus Citizen Journal; then the Columbus Dispatch until he retired. The early mornings at the paper allowed him to pursue his love of fishing and hunting in the afternoons and evenings; and to receive stern looks from his wife, Susan, when he got home too late.

Instead of a formal funeral service, the family has chosen to hold a Celebration of Life at a Private Gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to:
