Jerry Conkel, born on September 10, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on September 27, 2021 with his wife and daughters by his side, after a heroic battle with Alzheimer's.
Jerry is preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Howard and Ruby (Glassburn) Conkel. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl (Lindsay) Conkel, of 42 blessed years, his daughters Amy (Matt) Girard, Sarah (Seth) Mastrine, and five beautiful grandchildren, Lilyana, Jet, Juliette, Keaton and Ryder, his five siblings, sister and brother in law, mother in law, and several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.
Jerry grew up in Columbus, Ohio, went to West High school and resided in Grove City with his family. Jerry co-owned J&N Pallet Company and later went on to own and run Sportsmen's Billiard Club with his wife, Sherry, where they met several friends that became like extended family. Jerry loved spending his summers at Lake Erie on Catawba, fishing, golfing, and enjoying his family and wonderful lake friends, who were more like family. He never met a stranger and loved meeting new people. He was quick to give a hug and smile to everyone. Jerry was funny, outgoing, smart, kind and generous.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed the outdoors, as well as billiards, golfing, boxing- a Toughman winner, hunting, finishing and working on cars. Jerry was predominantly self taught, the youngest of six siblings, and quick to not get left behind. He was a businessman and could do it all. He could fix cars, build houses, repair pool cues, rebuild pool tables and raised two daughters. If Jerry could think it, he could accomplish it. He was Superman.
Jerry and Sherry met at Dixie Electric Company in 1977. They later married at Whitethorne Church CCCU on November 4, 1978 and have been lovingly devoted to one another. They went on to raise two daughters, Amy and Sarah, who still to this day refer to him as "Daddy". Jerry always called his girls his babies. He spent his entire life taking care of his daughters and his wife. Jerry's five grandchildren were the light of his life and he has passed down many of his amazing personality traits to them. They love their Papaw dearly.
Jerry was an incredible man. He was selfless, devoted, loyal, loving, generous, optimistic and a positive role model to all that knew him. Everyone that knew Jerry loved him.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 12 pm until the time of service at 2 pm at Newcomer SW Chapel 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
