Joan Violet Briggs

Joan Violet Chambers Briggs, age 97, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully in her home on August 18, 2022. Joan (Joanne) was born July 22, 1925 in Dereham, England to Phillip and Violet Chambers. She was the first of 8 children, followed by 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She served in the British Army (ATS) from 1943-46 during WWII as a motorbike dispatch rider and tank driver. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1947, Joan began her career as a travelling fashion model and worked 25 years in office management for Ford Motor Credit. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, boating, keeping up with the Royal Family, and a decadent slice of cheesecake.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Neville Briggs. Joan and Joseph were married for 40 years before his passing in 2002. Joan has 2 step-sons, 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Joan will be greatly missed by her granddaughter Kristi (Briggs) Bryan, brother and sister-in-law Brian and Sheena Chambers, and extended family and friends. Memorial and funeral services will be held in Dereham, England.
