John Mays, 86, of Delaware, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was born February 28, 1925, in Bellaire, OH, son of the late Darl and Elizabeth Stevenson Mays. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Mays; daughter, Avis Mays; brothers, Raymond, Melvin, Harry and Jim Mays; sisters, Eleanor Disilvestri, Gladys Winiesdorffer, Dolores Grover, Clara Lee Wetzig and Patricia Zimmerman. He served in the Army during WWII, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, L.B. Presbyterian Church in Long Beach, MS and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene Fox Mays; son, John Mays Jr.; daughters, Brenda (Mike) Velten and Carol (Mike) Jenkins; brothers, Roger (Joyce) Mays and Jerry (Roberta) Mays; sister, Virginia Chieffalo; grandchildren, Derek and Bryan Michael, Ryan, Chad and Bradley Mays, Jennifer Ward, Lisa Gore, Laurie Brown, Nancy Drysdale and Andria Hanson; daughter-in-law, Pam Mays and fifteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2011 from 11:30-2:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, with the funeral service beginning at 2:30 PM. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at HomeReach Hospice especially Marty McCurdy, Toni Kahn, Alta Williams and Rev. Patricia Stout.
