John H. Gibson Jr.

John H. "The Tire Man" Gibson Jr., of Harrisburg, OH, went home to the Lord suddenly on Tuesday night, May 8, 2012.

He had been battling CLL for the past four years. John was the first post commander of the VFW Post 11208, which he was responsible for opening in Harrisburg. He was a veteran of WWII and was a plank member on the U.S.S. Alabama.

He was one of seventeen children born in Ashland, KY. He and his wife moved to Harrisburg over thirty years ago where they owned and operated their tire business. John was a friendly, caring, kind, man who knew no stranger and took care of his friends, family and customers throughout the years. He loved going camping and fishing and loved being around people.

He is survived by his wife Letha, of 65 years; children, Tonda (Donald) Craig of Orient, John (Sheila) Gibson III of Orient, Donald Gibson of Harrisburg and Guy (Marsha) Gibson of Orient; grandchildren, Kris (Mitch) Thompson of Bellbrook, John Gibson IV of Orient, Deanna (Aaron) Spencer of Grove City, Robin (Joe) Stillwell of Orient, Constance Gibson of Harrisburg and Sara Gibson of Orient; ten great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joie Livingston of West Jefferson.

Visitation Friday, May 11, 2012 from 5- 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Funeral Service Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10 am at the Funeral Home with Pastor Edwin L. Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, OH.
