John Edward Johnson, 59, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born on October 20, 1962 in Columbus, Ohio to James and Iona (Calloway) Johnson.
John is preceded in death by his father, James and sister, Victoria Johnson.
John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Darla Character-Johnson; mother, Iona Johnson; sons, Cedric (Ashley) McBride, John (Nebraska) McBride-Johnson, Carl J. Character-Johnson, III; special nephew, David W. Johnson; grandchildren, Nasir Johnson, Jersey Johnson, Carter McBride, Noble Johnson, Capree McBride, Norrie Judah Johnson, Abel Johnson; brothers, James (Carolyn) Johnson, Phillip Johnson, David (Danelle) Johnson; aunts, Bonita Crews, Bernadette Stewart; uncles, cousins, who were like siblings, nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Family was very important to John, as was evident in the time that he spent with his children and his grandchildren, whom he affectionately called "his cubs." John was referred to as "Pops" because of his nurturing nature, the wisdom he passed on and his ability to be a father-figure to all. He had a warm, friendly and loving manner. He liked to party, socialize, and have a good time with his family and friends. Jahfree, as he was also known, truly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He had a strong connection to his Higher Power and passed on his beliefs to his children. John will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 2:30pm to 4:00pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus Northeast Chapel, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43231. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 4:00pm also at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus Northeast Chapel.
