John "Frank" Maxey, 63, of Grove City, Ohio, passed from this life to heaven on April 24, 2023. He was surrounded in love by his family. He is survived by his best friend, angel, and loving wife, Kim Keller, and faithful canine companion, Hope. John was a courageous fighter who bravely waged a five-year battle against cancer.
John was born in Seroe Colorado, Aruba and its crystal-blue Caribbean waters greeted him every day. Saltwater ran through his veins. His happy place was the ocean enjoying the warmth of the sun with his toes in the sand.
John led a thousand lives, and, on his journey, he never met a stranger. He attended Catholic University on a soccer scholarship and was also a punter on the football team. His athleticism was evident through his love of bowling, golfing, and waterskiing. In his understated way, John excelled at all he did and enjoyed a friendly competition.
John loved entertaining friends and family. His hospitable nature led him to own a restaurant in Washington, DC. His quick wit and sense of humor made him the life of the party. He loved music, his dance skills were unmatched and the envy of all with two left feet.
After attending physician assistant school in Maryland, John was recruited to sell human patient simulators. John's success in sales was predicated on his ability to connect with people. John was an amazing teacher which led him to mentor and train so many over the course of his career. He spent almost twenty years at Laerdal Medical before leaving due to his health.
John was the consummate caregiver. If you were fortunate to be in his company, he would make you feel welcome and comfortable. He always asked what he could do for you. His ability to read people was one of his best attributes along with his big heart. He wanted to be remembered as making people happier every day. His big smile, positive nature, and best hugs ever will be missed by those who knew him best.
John is survived by sisters: Kathy (Jimmy) Stafford, Mary (Bill) McKenna, Liz (Richard) Walsh, Maureen Maxey, Peggy (Skip) Haid, brother Michael (Barbara) Maxey, and numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, James and Anne Maxey. In addition to his family of origin, John was fortunate to have chosen brothers: Bob Reedy, Rob Rupert, Joe Pahlow, David Johnson, John Hawkins, Scott Arnold, Joe Huse, and Scott Spearn. Special thanks to these chosen siblings for being there for John over the last twenty years.
