John Thomas McCreay, 79, of Westerville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 7, 1944 to the late Charles F. and Rose M. (Camuse) McCreay. He married Patricia Massaro on January 10, 1970 in Youngstown, and she survives.
He leaves behind his daughter, Jeneen Connolly; son Ryan McCreay; sister, Mary Ellen (Tom) Flaherty; brother-in-law, James (Sandy) Massaro; and nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his step-sister, Margaret "Peggy" (Bob) Moherman and step-brother, Charles F. McCreay, Jr.
John graduated from high school in Youngstown; soon after enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served from August of 1962 to early September of 1966 as a Master at Arms, 3rd Class.
After serving in the Navy, John returned to Youngstown and took a job with Republic Steel.
John spent his early years working for the City of Youngstown as a Purchasing Agent. He moved to Dayton to pursue his career and became a Defense Contract Administrator. Later, residing in Columbus, working for Northern American Aircraft Systems Command and eventually retiring from Defense Supply Center and Veterans Administration in Columbus.
John's true passion came later in life where he enjoyed investing in real estate. In his free time, John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
John's life was a testament to his strength, compassion, and unwavering spirit. His legacy is etched in the hearts of those he touched. Remembered not only for his resilience and kindness, John will also be cherished for his infectious sense of humor, his profound love for music and dancing, and the countless joyful moments spent playing card games with his family. We gather not only to mourn our loss but to honor the life he so beautifully lived.
Visitation will be held at 10am on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, 43231. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12pm at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E. Dublin-Granville Road, New Albany, 43054. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center at 2pm.
