John Charles Osmond

January 3, 1938 — March 28, 2022

John Charles Osmond passed away on March 28, 2022 at age 84.

John lived a happy and full life. He was born on January 3, 1938 in Asheville, North Carolina. Shortly after his birth, and at the request of his grandmother, he was brought to Berkeley Springs, West Virginia to be baptized at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

As a child, John was active in Boy Scouts and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Connecticut, where he took pride in volunteering with the local Episcopal church and continuing his work with the Boy Scouts. In 1960, John graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Geology. During college, John also completed the ROTC Program and upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Transportation Corp. After a brief stint at Fort Eustis in Virginia, John served in Korea. He concluded his active duty service at Fort Lewis in Washington. John served another six years in the reserves, and in 1968, he was honorably discharged as an Army Captain.

During his time in the Army, John developed a love for trains, planes, and all forms of transportation. This love of transportation would continue for the remainder of John's life -
first working for Bonanza Airlines in Las Vegas and then Western Airlines in Los Angeles. In 1987, John transitioned into an airport management role at Cleveland Hopkins Airport before taking it a little easier and settling into a scheduling position at Port Columbus Airport.

John also lived a life of service. He was a lifelong Episcopalian/Anglican, and throughout his life, he tried to be active at whatever church he attended. After moving to Columbus, he became involved in several civic organizations and served in leadership positions with the Northland Community Council and the Sharon Woods Civic Association. After retiring, he also began volunteering with the Airport Ambassadors where he made several close friends.

One of John's favorite things to do was travel, especially to historical sights. He also loved exploring our beautiful national parks, metro parks, and city parks. John also had a life long love of dogs. He never traveled to a place or met a dog that he did not like.

John had a gentle, kind soul. He was always willing to lend a hand when needed. It is difficult to summarize John's life in a few words because he was, and always will be, irreplaceable.

John is survived by his wife, Chin, daughters, Karen and Ranie, son-in-law, JR, granddaughters, Brenna and Sydney, brother, Dan, sister-in-law, JoAnn, nieces, Laurie and Cindy and their families, and many friends who cared for him. He was pre-deceased by his father, John, mother, Mildred, beloved aunt, Brownie, and dear cousins, Hugh, Jean, and Ollie.

A memorial service for John will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church (7521 South Old State Rd, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035) at 11:00 a.m. on April 8, 2022. A short reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, John's family is asking that donations be made to St. Andrew's Anglican Church or to the Columbus Metroparks (www.metroparksfriends.org).
