John Leewood Paugh, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at Pickerington Methodist Hospital. Born on January 20, 1945, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, John was a lifelong resident of the state and a proud member of IBEW Local Union 683 for over 50 years.
Throughout his career, John made significant contributions to the electrical industry, working on various projects across Ohio. He was not only skilled but also a jack of all trades, often lending his talents to help others. His commitment to service extended beyond his profession; he was known for his generosity and willingness to assist anyone in need. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his bright spirit, his love for building and creating—most notably, he built his own house—and his ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures.
John served in the U.S. Army, having been drafted for Vietnam, though circumstances led him to Alaska, where he met his beloved wife, Nancy. Together, they created a warm and loving home filled with laughter, compassion, and the adventures of family life. John took great pride in being a grandpa and great-grandpa, cherishing the special moments with his 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
His interests were many, with a particular passion for hunting and sharing good times over a cigar and a bottle of beer. He was well known for his pipe, which often accompanied him during moments of relaxation.
John leaves behind his devoted wife, Nancy Paugh; son, Jonathan (Michelle) Paugh; daughter, Christy (Tim) Edsell; son, Basil (Mia) Sands; and his beloved pet, Spazz. He is also remembered fondly by his grandkids and great-grandkids, who will carry his spirit forward.
John is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Malina (Lamar) Esbenshade; his two brothers, Hugh and Fred Paugh; and his parents, Carl and May Paugh.
A visitation will be held on January 18, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. The graveside service will take place at Grove City Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
As we remember John, we celebrate a life that was characterized by generosity, love, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
