RAUCHENSTEIN
John N. "Rocky" Rauchenstein, 92, passed away quietly late Saturday evening, February 12, just four days short of celebrating his 64th wedding anniversary. Born in Surrey County, Virginia, on August 20, 1917, to Emil and Meta Rauchenstein, John attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City before enlisting in the Army Air Corps during WWII and retiring from military service a colonel with the USAF. As a civilian, Rocky became chief pilot in Columbus, OH for Lake Central Airlines, later to become part of USAIR. Rocky is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth; sister, Marion, "Betty" Crick of Grand Haven, MI; four sons, John Jr.(Alyce) of Canton, OH, Paul (Mary) and Peter (Kathy), both of Gahanna, OH, and Jim (June) of Albany, IN; and 12 grandchildren, Kristin (Chad) Jensen, Peter Jr., Melissa, Jay, Karl, Lindy, Laura, Amy, Hope, Eric, John, and Mason Rauchenstein. A Gahanna resident and member of Mifflin Presbyterian Church since 1953, Rocky remained interested in the theater, sporting firearms, Great Danes, and his family. Friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Wednesday, February 17, from 4-8 p.m. Services will be held Thursday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with long time friend Pastor Dwight D. Swift officiating. Interment to follow at Mifflin Township Cemetery.
