John Richard Baird, 71, of Columbus, OH, passed away May 15, 2011. He was born on April 10, 1940 in Congo, OH to Willard and Elizabeth (Vargo) Baird.
John served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and served for 20 years. He also worked for Riverside Methodist Hospital. John was lifetime member of the American Legion Post 239 and the Corning, OH Eagles Post 463.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Betty and Linda Baird, brothers, Ronald Vargo and Larry Baird. Surviving family includes, loving wife, Rose (Burton) Baird, son, John R. Jr. (Terry), daughters, Virginia L. "Ginny" (Jim) Browning, Debra L. Goins, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm, Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm, Friday, May 20, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.
