John Paul Salyers

John Paul Salyers, age 88 of Galloway, passed away October 19th, 2023. He was born September 29, 1935 in Elliot Co, Kentucky to the late David Marion & Elizza Ellen (Ison) Salyers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Tina (Salyers) Lyon, wife Milly (Stalman) Salyers, five brothers and two sisters. John is survived by 2 daughters; Judy Salyers, Linda Salyers, two granddaughters; Teila McKinley, Brenna (Lyon) Jenkins, great- granddaughter Ridley Jenkins, and many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

John Paul Salyers was the rock of his family. He was incredibly dependable and always eager to help his loved ones. John was fiercely proud of Milly and their 59-year marriage. He also dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. In addition to his twenty-plus years of service for Sears, he worked various jobs in construction, landscaping, and driving. He taught himself how to read after various misfortunes interfered with his formal education. He read such authors as Edgar Rice Burrows and Louis L'amour voraciously, but he enjoyed reading about nature even more. He learned old Appalachian remedies and the names of most of the local plants and animals from his mother, then as an adult, John continued to discover more wildlife from exploration, books, and documentaries. He treasured his garden and shared his harvest every year with friends, family, and neighbors. John identified as a rockhound from a very early age. His love of minerals, relics, and fossils led to passions for archeology and geology as well. He also loved to hunt, fish, and play sports in his youth, but as he aged he greatly preferred jigsaw puzzles, card games, movies, cooking, leisurely bike rides, and time with his family-- including his beloved cats, chickens, and even flying squirrels!

Visitation for John will be on Monday October 30, 2023 from 11 am until the time of service of 1 pm at Newcomer Southwest Chapel, Grove City, Ohio. 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123. After the services John will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio.
