John Robert Smith, 89, of Columbus, OH passed away at his home, May 20, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones.

John was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 8, 1933 to the late John H. Smith and Cleoda (Eleby) Smith.

He is preceded in death by his father John Henry Smith, mother Cleoda Eleby Smith, Step-mother Mary McElroy Smith, sister Roberta Elzy, sister Thessie Arnold, brother Milton Smith and his loving wife of 60 years Marilyn Chever Smith.

John is survived by his children, Traci Smith, Angela (James) Gannon, Robin (LaTonga) Smith, sister Mary E. Anderson, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. John was an avid Michigan Football fan. He volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels. John Proudly served in the United States Air Force. He worked for the Post Office for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 9am until the time of service at 10am at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 1775 W. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43223. Burial will follow at Dayton National Cemetery where military rights will be held.
