VANO
Joseph A. Vano, 88, of Westerville and formerly of Alexandria, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011. Joe was born in Paterson, NJ, on June 28, 1922, to Sebastian P. and Anna Maria (Pagliaro) Vano, and is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jo Ann Vano; sister, Clare Zanfini; step-grandson, Scott Avery. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Myrtle (Woodward) Vano; daughter, Barbara (Frederick) Hartings; son, Joseph (Sandra) Vano Jr; sisters, Philomena Izzo, of Hillsborough, NJ, and Marian Haberman, of Punta Gorda, FL; brother, Peter (Jean) Vano, of Warren Twp, NJ; grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Hartings, Kristen (Van) Easterday, step-granddaughter, Jody (Keith) Mullins; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Easterday and Jocelyn Hartings; step great-grandchildren, Austin and Whitney Mullins; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Joe served during WWII with the 9th Air Force and retired from the Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He graduated from Rutgers University and retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technology after 40 years of service. His memberships included Alexandria Fire Department, Licking County Conservation Board, Western Electric Pioneers Club and the Woodworkers of Central Ohio. Joe was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, 785 Newark Granville Road, Granville, OH where his Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011, 10:00 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 6500 Busch Blvd, Suite 210, Columbus, OH 43229.
