Joseph E Hughes

Joseph Edward Hughes (86), left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on August 24, 2021. He was ordained as a Christian minister and preached for 54 years at various churches before retiring from Chicago Avenue Church of Christ in 2009. After retiring, he placed his membership at Cherry Creek Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and then elder. He was the Treasurer and Past President of the Franklinton Ministerial Association, Columbus, Ohio; and was a member of the West Park Kiwanis, Cleveland, Ohio.

Ed was born on June 19, 1935, to the late Joseph P. and Anne Sanders Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife Kathy Leppert Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Jo) Grumman Hughes; daughters, Laura (Scott) Wynia, Lisa (Ehab) Kouta, grandchildren Nathanael (Laura), Benjamin (Lisa), Elisabeth, Timothy, and Stephanie Wynia, Brian (Mykel) Campbell, Rebecca (Timothy) Rose, and David Campbell; great grandchildren Carter and Kailani Campbell and Ryker and Cecilia Rose. Stepchildren Lynn (Jerry) Jones, Sue (Mark) Brown, Terri (Mike) Jones, Becky Grumman, and Charles (Teri) Grumman, and 14 step grandchildren. Beloved cousins Anna (Paul) Barnes, Jack Berry, and Sue Berry Harris; and close friend Wm. Reed Searcy.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31 and the funeral will be Wednesday, September 1, at Noon at Cherry Creek Church of Christ, 4977 Sullivant Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43228, followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery. After the funeral, guests are invited to join the family for food in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in memory of Ed Hughes to the Cherry Creek Church of Christ.
