Joseph Frank Spanovich, 93, of Gahanna, passed away February 14, 2022.
Joseph was born August 4, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to late Joseph and Helen (Adam) Spanovich.
He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine of 59 years; parents; brother, Rudolph Spanovich.
He proudly served three years in the United States Navy during and immediately following World War II. Joseph then served five years in the Naval Reserve. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Master's Degree in School Administration. At OSU, he met the love of his life, Katherine, who he married in 1954. For 25 years, Joseph worked in the Whitehall City School System. He served on Gahanna City Council for many years and in 1970, Joseph became the first Mayor when Gahanna became a city. In 1985, he continued his service to the community as a Mifflin Township Trustee then Fiscal Office until his retirement in 2020. Joseph was one of the longest serving officials in the state of Ohio.
Joseph will be deeply missed by; children, Julia (Jack) Allen, Anthony (Rebecca) Spanovich, Joseph (Ann) Spanovich; grandchildren, Benjamin, Caitlin, Brian, Joseph R., Suzanne; eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 5, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. Memorial services will follow at the funeral home where military rites will be held.
