Joyce M. Williams, born on September 23, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, was a remarkable woman whose love for her family and spirited personality touched the lives of all who knew her. She departed world on October 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and cherished memories.
Joyce was a headstrong individual, known for her loving and caring nature. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and she built a home filled with laughter and delicious food, especially her famed potato salad, which became a beloved staple during family gatherings. Her daughters, Beverly and Melinda, fondly recall special moments spent with their mother, including being whisked off to school in a striking Corvette and enjoying delightful breakfasts at Shades on South High. These moments encapsulated the joy and happiness Joyce instilled in her family life.
Joyce’s culinary talents were complemented by her time spent working at Thurmans Cafe, where her kids delighted in indulging in wonderful meals prepared with love. Family meals were a spirited affair, where everyone gathered around the table to share not only food but stories, laughter, and love—elements that defined Joyce's essence as a matriarch.
An avid animal lover, Joyce shared her life with many dogs that brought her immense joy. Her hobbies extended beyond her love for animals; she enjoyed games of bingo and visits to the casino, always keeping the thrill of fun alive. A passionate supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Joyce exhibited her spirited nature in every aspect of her life.
She cherished the visits from her grandchildren, who brought light into her life. Nathan, Chelsea, Chance, Teighan, SethLee, Jack, and her daughters Beverly Reese, Melinda Reese, and Keri Phelps-Scott, were everything to her. Her role as a grandmother was one she proudly embraced, and she also lived to see the joy of great-grandchildren—Landyn, Logan, Ainsley, Alistair, Liam, and Adeline—who added to her ever-growing family tree.
Joyce's heart was filled with pride not just for her family but for the life she built alongside her beloved husband, Lundy Williams Jr., who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her father, Delbert Carr; her mother, Rose Carr; and her sisters, Janet, Judy, and JoAnna. Each of these individuals held a special place in her heart, and she carried their memories with her always.
As we say goodbye to Joyce M. Williams, we celebrate the indelible imprint she left on our lives—a legacy of warmth, care, and boundless love. In our hearts, Joyce will forever remain, a beacon of strength and a reminder of the beautiful moments we've shared. May her spirit continue to live on through each of us, guiding us to cherish our families and the memories we create together.
