Julius D. Harris

Julius D. "J.D." Harris, 89 of Columbus, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009. J.D. was born in Picayune, Mississippi, on February 6, 1920. He is preceded in death by his mother, Stella Fortenberry; sister, Johnnie Mae Gibbs; grandmother, Annie McGilberry.
He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Charlene Harris; daughter, Pamela Harris, of Denver, Colorado; stepson, Marc (Tiffanie) Sneed of Raleight; step-grandson, Xavier Sneed, of North Carolina; one and only nephew, Jimmie (Ceola) Harris of DeRidder, Louisiana; first cousin, Sanders (Melvine) Draughn, of Detroit, Michigan; special nieces, Anne (Eddie) Jones Jackson and Connie Jones Hart of Chicago, Illinois, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Even though J.D.'s family was small, he embraced many very close friends as "family" and spent many hours enjoying their company----He will surely be missed.
Julius was a retired Tech Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, and a 20-year employee at the Youth Services Commission for the state of Ohio.
J.D. was a devoted member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and attended whenever his health permitted and always noted that the service was wonderful, complete with an uplifting pastoral message and soul-stirring gospel music.
