Karen Anne Watson

August 13, 1941 — February 13, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Watson on February 13, 2025. She was our dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

When people saw Karen in the last years of her life they saw a picture-perfect grandmother. If they looked closer, they would have seen a healer, a survivor of cancer and other hardships. A mother who defied convention to build a better life for her children.

Her family learned that compassion doesn’t begin and end in the home, it is our duty and our privilege to extend goodwill to others. She did this during her employment at OSU Hospital as a nurse, and eventually as an excellent home health care nurse.

She taught all of us to celebrate the good days. Holidays were an opportunity to show her love through delicious family meals. She organized family vacations to Florida with her grandkids, took each of them back to school shopping before their parents had a chance to and loved to celebrate milestones big and small. She reminded us that life is too precious to put off enjoying it.

She was our joy, quick to laugh, always there to encourage, and a source of endless love and support even as she carried the weight of guiding and shaping our family.

Karen will forever be missed by her brother Bill (Kaye) Brockmeier; her children Lisa (Steve) Mansfield, Peggy Welch, Ken (Cathy) Welch. Grandchildren Dean (Katie) Mansfield, Nicole Taylor, Caleb Mansfield, Evan (Nadine) Welch, her nieces Cheryl and Cindy and her 17 great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Alice and Karl Brockmeier.

The kindness Karen showed others was reflected back to her in the gentle encouragement and care of many helpful hands. Thank you to all the family friends and Hospice of Ohio that helped us during this time.

Visitation for Karen will be on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 10am to 11am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home, then procession to Pioneer Cemetery in Westerville, Ohio.
