Karen Firstenberger, age 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6th at 2:30 pm at her home after battling cancer for 8 years and residing for 50 years.
She was born in Delaware at Grady Memorial Hospital to Wayne and Vickie (Verna May Long) Kazee and was the oldest of 3 kids. Karen touched so many lives with her love, laughter and positivity. She had a strong faith in Jehovah that helped her battle her cancer. She enjoyed her life with her family, her friends, her travels and Lake Erie where she spent sitting by the water watching the eagles fly with her husband of 54 years. Mom was never extravagant--all she cared about was being surrounded by family. Her concern for others far outweighed any concern for herself. She met Rick Firstenberger when she was 16, where she lived in Delaware and Rick lived across the street from her. They said their "I do's" on March 25, 1967 and had a loving beautiful life together with 3 kids.
She is survived by her husband Rick of 54 years, 3 kids, Tony (Lisa) Firstenberger of Cardington, OH, Tracie (Randy) Dart of Bainbridge, OH, Rick Firstenberger of Ashley, OH, 2 brothers and wives, Edward Wayne (Vickie) Kazee of Crossville, TN and Martin (Kate) Kazee of Sunbury, OH and many nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to the Capitol City Hospice nurses for all the love and attention they gave to Karen in her final days.
There will be no funeral services but a Celebration of Life get together-date to be determined. Visitors are welcome to the home in support of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marble Lighthouse Historical Society, Capitol City Hospice or American Cancer Society.
