Kay F. Cotterman, born on December 8, 1944, in, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout her life, Kay was known for her sassy and direct personality, coupled with a great sense of humor and an endearing charm that endeared her to many. She was a friendly soul who loved people and brightened the lives of those around her with her giving nature.
Kay pursued her education with dedication, attending the Academy of Court Reporting and majoring in Criminal Justice at Oakland Community College. Her commitment to helping others was further exemplified by her achievement of a Certificate of Crisis Intervention from the Madison Heights Police Department. Her proudest accomplishment was achieving 14 years of sobriety, a testament to her strength and resilience.
Kay found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests, including fishing (aka "feeshing")—fondly remembering a particularly memorable 14-hour fishing trip. She enjoyed bowling, playing euchre and poker, and had a deep appreciation for sports, often watching the PGA while eating her favorite pizza. Travel was a passion of hers, especially driving through the scenic beauty of the Rocky Mountains, where she could soak in nature's splendor while driving higher than the clouds.
She leaves a cherished legacy among her family, including her beloved husband, Jud Cotterman; her daughter, Marian (Dave) Wodka; granddaughter, Tessa (Brandi) Epifanio; her great-grandson, Ryder; her nephew, Billy (Theresa) Kirk; her sister, Karla (Dorcel) Pierce; aunt, Dorothy Locker; and special friend, Linda (Tom) Martin. These relationships were an essential part of Kay's life, providing her with love and support throughout her journey.
Kay is predeceased by her father, Wesley Zook; her mother, Loris Zook; her sister, Karen Kirk; her sister-in-law, Phoebe Cotterman; and “Mom and Dad Ward.” Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123.
Kay F. Cotterman will be remembered for her infectious spirit, vibrant personality, positive attitude, and the love she shared so freely. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
