Kenneth Eugene Thress, 87, of Columbus, Ohio went to Heaven on October 9, 2012. He was born in 1925 and raised in Zanesville, Ohio. He graduated from Lash High School in 1943 where he met the love of his life and future wife, Margaret (Wilson). They would have a wonderful 59 year marriage. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Graduated from Ohio University and Ohio State University. Worked for 30 years as an elementary school principal for the Columbus City Schools including Smith Road, Moler, Scottwood, Maize, Clinton, and Huy Schools. His greatest legacy was giving thousands of Columbus school children a super elementary school experience. His greatest joys were singing, baseball, and his family. Long time member of Ascension Lutheran Church and member of the choir.
Ken and Margaret enjoyed 20 years of retirement at Bay Aristocrat Village in Clearwater, Florida. He was President of the Social Club and organized with Margaret numerous park dances, holiday musicals, & Easter sunrise services. He sang in the Clearwater Community Chorus.
Ken is survived by four children, Tom (Linda) Thress, Cindy (Paul) Kalb, Andrew Thress, & Dan (Annie) Thress; 8 grandchildren, Casey (Katie) Thress, Lynn (Tom) Haines, Ben (Starla) Kalb, Megan Kalb, Kate Kalb, Solie Thress, Leo Thress, & Saya Thress; 6 great grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, & Travis Kalb, Zachary Haines, Estella and Carson Thress; and lifetime dearest friends Bob & Mary Kaiser. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Margaret, parents, Frank Sr. & Beulah Thress, & brother, Frank Thress, Jr.
Special thanks to the residents and staff of Kensington Place for making his last home such a joyful experience. Funeral is Monday, October 15 at 11:00 am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Road, Columbus. Pastor Tim Muller officiating. There will be visitation one hour preceding the service. Interment at Zanesville Memorial Park.
