Larry Michael Cordell, age 72, passed away into God's heavenly kingdom on October 28,2022 after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure and COPD. He is survived by his wife, Ann, brother Claude Cordell (Anita), sister Judy Kazee (Don), sons Michael (Jamie), Chris (Sally), and Brian (Brandi) Cordell, grandchildren Jacob, Joshua, Caleb, Samantha, Devon, and Kylee Cordell, as well as four stepdaughters: Joni Baker, Brooke Rockhold, Chelsea Smith, Kari Mahuren and their 9 children. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father Frank and mother Nancy (Blake) Cordell, brother Pat Cordell and son Andy Cordell. Larry was born on August 23, 1950. He graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1968 and then served in the Navy for six years where he learned and worked in the field of electronics. After the Navy, he was employed in various fields including electronics, supervising new home construction at MI Homes, assembling steel buildings, and truck driving. He loved building things including porches, sunrooms, decks, and doing home renovation and remodeling. Larry always took pride in his work and in helping others through his accomplishments. He loved the Lord and had an active church life. As a young man raising his boys, Larry taught Sunday school, sang solos during church services, and even delivered several sermons. Later in life, he went on several mission trips to Princeton, WV with his church at the time (Genoa Baptist) to help with small building projects, repair homes for the needy, and assist with entire church construction. Most recently, he attended Life in Christ Fellowship for several years. Larry had a great sense of humor and was always making people laugh. All who knew him loved him. He was a kind, gentle and sentimental man who enjoyed fishing, boating, Hallmark movies and playing Spider solitaire. As he became older, his previously unknown artistic talents became evident as he developed a hobby of rock painting and creative coloring of adult coloring books. Larry always wanted to help others. Even during his long illness he tried to do whatever he could to help out, including dishes, cooking, and odd jobs around the house. Larry did not like drawing attention to himself and, although he did not want a funeral or memorial service, there will be a celebration of his life to be announced in the coming months and updated on the memorial website.
