Larry H. Hunter

April 6, 1964 — August 14, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry H Hunter, who was called to eternal rest on August 14, 2023. Born on April 6, 1964, in Columbus, Ohio. Larry lived a life full of love, enjoyed the company of his cherished family and friends.

His wonderful sense of humor and sincere kindness are survived in his beloved spouse, Sonja Hunter, whom he married in 1991 while stationed in Abilene, Texas, and is carried forward by his children, Brandin Hunter, Angeliqua Calloway, Marcus Hunter all of Columbus, Ohio and Francesca Townsend of Mesquite, Texas. His love and teachings will remain in the hearts of his grandchildren Chloe Jacox, Amarah Brown, Norah Hunter, Jakoree, Zaidyn, Mikah, and Royalty Townsend.

Larry is also survived by his caring mother, Mary L. Hunter and his loyal brother, Lloyd H. Hunter Jr. He is preceded in death by his Father, Lloyd H. Hunter Sr, his Mother-in-law, Lille Sara Calloway, Father-in-law, Fred Calloway Sr, and Brother-in-law, Rickey Calloway. Despite these heart aches, Larry continued to live his life with strength and resilience. He has a host of family and friends in Ohio, West Virigina and Texas that loved him deeply.

Outside his family, Larry had a deep affection for all sports. He was talented in football, and he was recruited by three Columbus high schools to play for them. In 1982 Larry was the Ohio High School State Champion Boys Track Class AAA in the 200-meter dash. He also loved watching football and his favorite NFL team was the Minnesota Vikings. He relished the challenge and camaraderie of the Rolling Wonders Bowling League, contributing to many memorable moments. Among his favorite destinations was Las Vegas, a city he visited to unwind and enjoy life's pleasures.

Larry joined the United States Air Force in 1985, where he served as an Aerospace Maintenance Journeyman for 10 years at RAF Mildenhall (England) and Dyess Airforce base (Abilene, Texas) until his Honorable Discharge in 1995. He then transitioned careers as a Corrections Officer for the State of Texas and then in 1998 with the State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction for a total of 20 years. He retired in 2018.

Larry's memory will remain in our hearts, his humor will echo in our laughter, and his love will continue in the many lives he has touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
