Larry's journey in education began with a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, followed by a Master’s degree from West Virginia University. He devoted his life to teaching and coaching football, inspiring countless students at Bridgeport High School and later at Chopticon High School. His passion for nurturing young minds was only surpassed by his commitment to creating an environment where joy and camaraderie flourished. He proudly ascended to the role of principal at Hilltop Elementary in Yorkville, Ohio, before concluding his distinguished career in the Buckeye Local School District.
Always armed with a bright smile and a vibrant sense of humor, Larry was known for his fun-loving, easy-going personality. A true sports fanatic, but his love for his family truly was his greatest joy. He treasured the time spent with his three daughters and took immense pride in his six grandchildren—each a shining star in his life. The family he and his devoted wife, Kathleen Mary Kavage, created together was his proudest accomplishment, embodying the warmth and love he fostered every day.
Larry’s interests extended beyond his professional endeavors; he cherished family gatherings, enjoyed exercise at the YMCA, and held a special place in his heart for his two beloved cats Milo and Marley. Those fortunate enough to share moments with him will forever reminisce about the laughter and love he brought into their lives.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Kathleen, and their daughters: Kelly (Emilio) Traversa, Veronica (Shane) Andrews, and Tara (Eric) Petho. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Michael Traversa, Ryan Traversa, Lexi Forgacs, Alex Forgacs, Abby Petho, and Eli Petho, who will carry his spirit in their hearts.
