Larry Eugene Wells, 79, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023, with his loving wife of 60 years by his side and all five of his children surrounding him. He fought a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia and a lesser man would have given up long before he did. His giving and strong heart, as well as his love for his wife and family, carried him through. One of the last things he told us was "He was ready to go the Cross with Him" and we know we will see him again in Heaven.
Larry's wife of 60 years was the love of his life. Always a competitive athletic man, who played baseball, softball, basketball and golf, when asked what his favorite sport was, he replied "Diann". Larry also loved horses and thoroughbred racing. He had his own system for rating the horses and enjoyed spending hours analyzing the racing form each week. When he had a good day at Beulah Park, he arrived home with carnations for Diann. While he did very well at the races, his biggest winning ticket was his wife. Larry was fortunate to have retired in his fifties and he and Diann were blessed with many years of a happy retirement together. They traveled all over the States, visited all the places on his bucket list, visited friends in England, wintered at the beach and played an active role in their children and grandchildren's lives. They showed their children what love looks like, in good times and bad, and were an example to all. And to think, some said it would never last.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sara Scarberry Stockman (Ralph) and Clark Wells, and brother John Wells. Larry is survived by his wife Dianna, brother Bill Wells of Bidwell, Ohio, children Rick (Quin) Wells, Terri (Rob) Davis, Traci (Raymond Kelly) Hamilton, Tammi (Mark) Stoll and Tricia (JD) Sayre, grandchildren Michael (Ashley) Wells, Daniel (Jaci) Wells, Kaylee (Jimmy) Jones, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Wells, Kelsea Davis, Abby (Marcus) Rixon, Annie (Jake) Johnson, Rae-Kelly Hamilton, Sara (Andrew) Decker, Jacob (Julia) Hamilton, Sam Stoll, Lukas Hamilton, Ginger Sayre, Sydney Stoll, Nathan Hamilton, Parker Sayre, Spencer Stoll, Connor and Cooper Sayre and great-grandchildren Ryan and Rylee Jones; Jonathon, Jasmine, Christina, and Kyle Wells; Thomas and Lincoln Wells; Bentley Baisden, Warren and Wren Wells; Elliot and Colin Rixon. He was Grampy, Poppaw and Grandpa to many who will miss him dearly! He leaves behind memories of trips to the park, playing ball, fun at the driving range and the home putting range, lunches out to Chick fil A & Longhorn, Frosty runs to Wendy's, watching westerns, being a trickster, attending numerous sporting events, concerts and any event the grandchildren were in. They kept him busy. He made sure they all knew the difference between a hat and a cap and that each one of them was a "Catbird".
Larry's children were blessed with a generous father who loved them and was always ready to lend a hand with any project from homework when they were little to major home projects when they were adults. He was a steadfast presence in their lives and they knew they could always count on him. We loved our family nights of playing Tripoley and Christmas Eve lunches at Planks. The many trips to the Ohio River, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach will be fondly remembered always. But just knowing he was five minutes away from all of us, and we were able to see him whenever we wanted, was a gift many adult children do not have and for that we are grateful. We will miss our silver fox and his arctic blond locks.
So many memories of this loving, kind, generous man, we could go on with no end. He will be dearly missed but will live in the hearts of his wife, children and grandchildren forever.
