Laura Helen Bowers, age 93 of Grove City passed away from natural causes peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren. Born on September 20, 1919 in Charleston, WV. She graduated from Central High School, Columbus, Class of 1938 and wed Kenneth E. Bowers on September 2, 1939. They were lifelong residents of Grove City.
She was predeceased in death by parents, Glenn W. and Lona E. McCabe and loving husband of 60 years, Kenneth Bowers, sisters Maxine McCabe and Kathleen Corbett, brother Glenn McCabe and daughter-in-law Donna Morgan Bowers.
Survived by her 6 children, Kenneth Bowers, Grove City, David (Judy) Bowers, Grove City, Robert (Sharen) Bowers, Hilliard, Nancy (Allan) Rancour, Grove City, Michael (Sherry) Bowers, Orient and Mary (Michael) Lerch, Dublin and 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Phyllis Knaul, Reynoldsburg, Freda Watson, Utah and brother Donald (Mary) McCabe, Florida. She was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Granddaughters of a Civil War veteran and a member of Grand Army of the Republic, Inc. She was a devoted Christian, and a caring, nurturing and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. A woman blessed with a quick mind, she was an excellent cook and homemaker. She loved gardening, reading, Scrabble and discussing politics.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 25 from 2-6 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 26 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Owen Stotts officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
