Laura Mae Simmons, 77, of Columbus, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2024. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 20, 1946; the oldest daughter of Arthur and Dorothy Bastifell.
Laura was a woman of strong Christian faith with a heart full of compassion, values and beliefs that she instilled in her children. Nothing was more important to her than her relationship with Jesus. Helping others was the calling of her life. She will be fondly remembered for her ability to help, listen, and laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was life of the party. Extremely creative, Laura loved to paint and do crafts. She enjoyed living in the moment with her family and dear friends.
She was previously married for thirty-two years to Jerry Simmons with whom she shared four children: Albert, William, Kimberley and Dorothy. She always said her children were her greatest gifts, and they felt that in the love and support she provided. She took special joy in moving around this great country. Each move was an adventure and a chance to introduce her children to new places and people, opening their hearts and minds to diversity.
She was a devoted and fun Grammy to Dustin Fry (Hannah), Katelynn (Cole) Smith, Alyssa Simmons (Dylan), Riley Hill (Sebastian), Lauren Hill (Breanna), Jaden (Ariel) Bennett-Simmons, Dally McNew, Nicco Simmons, Jesse Dawn Simmons, and Zahier Simmons. There was no greater joy in her life than her grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them; camping, fishing, baking, playing, planning parties and holidays, and cherishing every moment she had with them.
Laura’s radiant spirit is carried on by her two beloved daughters, Kimberley (William) Hill and Dorothy Simmons. She has been reunited in heaven with her two amazing sons, Albert and William Simmons.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Arthur and Dorothy Bastifell; her brother, Alvin Bastifell; and her sons, Albert and William Simmons.
