LAWRENCE E. CUNNINGHAM (1949-2025)
“…And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”
Larry departed to meet the God of the Trails on January 21, 2025.
He was a graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School and The Ohio State University, where he received his master’s degree in psychology. He then worked for the State of Ohio until retirement.
He immersed himself in photography, visiting every covered bridge in Ohio. He spent many hours in the Metro Parks, mainly Blendon Woods, where he focused on nature and wildlife, especially birds. He was thrilled last year to catch an eagle in flight. He relished his talks with others he met on the trails. He photographed countless headstones for the Find a Grave website. For over a decade, he volunteered for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.
His interests led him to read widely: science, archaeology, mythology, history, spirituality, poetry, folklore, and other esoterica. He was an avid geocacher with over 5,000 finds to his credit. He loved coffee, books, old maps, music, and classic movies. He was always eager to explore a new park or nature reserve. He never owned a suit and never learned to swim.
He was an honorable man- unpretentious, with a good heart and a generous spirit. He saw beauty in the world and showed it to the rest of us.
Larry was Preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Norma Cunningham, and his sister Mary Gulish.
Surviving relatives are: Joe and Melanie Lutton, Eric and Jessica Lutton, Michelle and Joe Whipple , Trina and Luke Bonell, Carol And Ricky Loring.
He will be greatly missed by many friends and neighbors of the Blendon Reserve Condominium community, and most especially by Elizabeth Jeffries, Anam Cara, who was with him until the end.
