Lawrence "Larry" R. Price, 51, lifetime resident of the west side of Columbus, OH, went to find comfort in the Lord after a long illness on November 22, 2012 at the Kobacker House. He was born on October 1, 1961. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard (Dick) Price. Surviving family includes, loving mother, Shirley (Trafford) Ream. Devoted wife of 29 years, Margie Price, sons, Tyler (Bethany), Austin (Paxton), grandchildren, Riley and Avery. Sister, Linda (Russ) Coffman. Nieces, Katie (Bryce) Phillips, Kellie Coffman. Great-nephew, Brennan Coffman. Larry was also survived by many other extended family and friends.
Larry worked for the Big Lots corporate office as a maintenance supervisor and retired at the age of 43 due to a lung disease called Alpha-1. He was listed for a bi-lateral lung transplant in 2005. On March 10, 2006, he received the gift of life from an anonymous donor of two "young lungs." During the past seven years since the transplant Larry has had his ups and downs with infections and surgeries. The past few years he developed numerous skin cancers, partly due to side effects from the immune suppression medication he was given for the lungs.
Friends and family joined us as we followed Tye to his gigs with his rock band, "The Contraptions." When Larry was able he would surprise us with a visit to the stage to perform his solo of "What a Wonderful World", Louis Armstrong style.
Austin was our sportsman involved in many sports and Larry would brag about his natural talent. Larry was front and center for all of Austin's games as well as the time they spent together watching sports on TV.
Larry was also blessed with two beautiful grandchildren who he adored.
Larry was a big fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
We are especially thankful to our O.S.U. transplant and oncology teams, HomeReach Hospice and the Kobacker House for all of their care, guidance, and love and support to the entire family through Larry's journey.
A special thanks to our church families, Westgate UMC, Columbus and Warehouse 839 in Hilliard. Also, special thanks to all of our devoted and loyal friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00pm, Friday, November 30, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Larry's wish was to be cremated followed by a Celebration of Life which will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Warehouse 839, 3691 Main Street, Hilliard, OH with Pastor Karen Muntzing officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church social hall.
In honor of Larry, you may dress in Buckeye or Bengals attire for both the visitation at the funeral home and the Celebration of Life at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Larry's wish was to have any donations to benefit his children and grandchildren's trust fund, through Newcomer Funeral Home.
