Lawrence Edward Welch, 73, a resident of Columbus, OH, passed away on November 30, 2006, at his home after a long battle with gastric cancer. He was born in Barricksville, WV on November 25, 1933. Preceded in death by his parents Alonzo and Alice (Ross) Welch; step-mother, Lillie Mae Welch. Four siblings, brothers- Alonzo Jr., William, Robert and sister Alice Tillman; sisters-in-law Ruby and Norma Welch, and brother-in-law Eddie Tillman Sr. Survived by his devoted and loving wife Patricia Tucker-Welch, in-laws Mary and Emmit Owens, sisters-in-law Beatrice Welch and Gwen Mendenhall (Cincinnati, OH). Children, Denise Gibson, Melanie Mitchell (Tampa, FL), Sheri Lynn Welch (Antioch, CA), Lori Smith (Raymond), Shana N. Welch, Brian Welch (Cleveland, OH). Stepchildren Talbert Townsel (Shawn) (Jacksonville, FL), Tara Tucker (Cincinnati, OH) and Tyson Tucker. Nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also survived by ex-wife and dear friend Odella Welch and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends. Past member of the Olentangy Elks Lodge #521. Lawrence is a product of the Columbus Public School system and a long time entrepreneur of the city of Columbus. Owner-operator of the Tip-Top Cab Co. for over twenty years. Previous driver for the Yellow Cab Co. Lawrence was one of the oldest owner-operators in the city. He also served four terms as a representative for owners-operators with the city's Taxi Cab Board. Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 12:00 PM at Pilgram Baptist Church 1080 E. Broad St. Columbus, Ohio 43205 with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home N.E. Chapel 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus.
