Leon L. Wheeler

Leon Lee Wheeler departed this life on March 5, 2019, after surpassing his 80th birthday.
Mr. Wheeler was born on March 1st, 1939, in Huntington, WV, to Early Lee Wheeler and Alice Eanes Wheeler, who both precede him in death.
He was wed to Esther Mae Clements and then relocated to Springfield, MA, where they started their family. Ultimately, the Wheelers moved to Columbus, OH, bought a home, and raised their three children: Leanne, Early, and Kimberly.
Mr. Wheeler is an Air Force Veteran, who after a long career with the United States Postal Service, retired in 1997.
It was not uncommon to find Mr. Wheeler on the golf course, on the softball field, or besting an unsuspecting opponent on a pool table. After caddying at local public and private courses in Huntington (WV), golf became a lifelong passion. By the age of 20, he had already won his first golf tournament.
Mr. Wheeler has won as many tournaments as the number of years he competed in golf, nearly sixty-eight. Although he was very competitive, he was careful to say that he was the best "that day", whether he spoke of his first trophy, or his last.
Mr. Wheeler is preceded in death by his parents, Early Lee Wheeler and Alice Eanes Wheeler Thomas; and two brothers, Leonard Early Wheeler and David Thomas.
Left to mourn his passing, are his devoted wife of 52 years, Esther Mae (Clements) Wheeler; their three children and respective spouses (as applicable): Leanne D. Wheeler, Early L. (Cathy) Wheeler, Sr., and Kimberly L. (Nathan) Nixt; five grandchildren: Early L. Wheeler, Jr., Naomi B. E. Wheeler, Caden J. Nixt, McKenna L. Nixt, and Jude M. Nixt; two nieces: Alice L. (Darrell) Wheeler Herbin and Lolita A. Wheeler; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Visitation Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 10am until the time of Funeral Service at 11am at Newcomer, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Interment to take place Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 1pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in Huntington, West Virginia.
