Lessie W. Blackburn, age 90, passed away on January 19, 2013 after suffering from complications of pneumonia. She was born in Valley Head, AL and moved to the Akron area in 1946. She was a real estate agent for several years before retiring to FL in 1979. Shortly after moving, she decided she wasn't ready for retirement and worked part time in an office until age 73.
She was a member of The Akron Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William; mother and father, Lula and Moses Carr; six sisters and three brothers.
She was an exceptional mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and is survived by her daughters Loretta (Greg) Falk, Carol (Barry) Pfaff and Wanda (Chris) Wines; grandchildren William Farriss, Michael Black, Chrissy Gioconda, Chad Pfaff and Michael Pfaff; great-grandchildren Daniel and Lessie Farriss; Daniella, Vincent and Carmine Gioconda; Rylan, Layla and Sarah Pfaff. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Betty Blackburn and Mae Singer and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Northeast Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd., on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM. Interment will take place on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 1:15 PM in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, with Pastor Ernie Kemppel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Lessie's family suggests memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity.
The family is very grateful for the exceptional care Lessie received from the staffs at Worthington Christian Village and Odyssey Hospice of Columbus during her final days.
