Lillian Geeroms, from Columbus, Ohio (and of Kent and Stow, Ohio) passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at the age of 98. She is survived by her only son, Claude.
Lillian was born January 25, 1923 in Brussels, Belgium to father Jules Vermeyen and mother Madelyn Vermeyen. In Brussels, she worked for the Belgian equivalent of Social Security. Having survived World War II in Belgium, she and her new husband, Lucien, moved to the United States (to Kent, Ohio) in 1948, because of Lucien's new job at the Davey Tree Company.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed visiting with close friends, and reading French magazines and books. Lillian also loved swimming and Belgian foods, including chocolates, and pastries. She enjoyed a variety of music -- popular, classical and international music.
In Kent, (in her 30's and 40's) she enjoyed swimming and teaching others to swim. She worked at Kent State University in an administrative role at the Career Placement Department.
Lillian moved from the Kent/Stow Ohio area to Columbus in November 2013 so that Claude could help her more easily in her day-to-day needs. She seemed to enjoy her life here in Columbus, though she gave up driving.
Lillian began to develop physical coordination and memory problems in mid-2016, and was moved from independent living at Brookdale/Trillium to Assisted Care living at Whetstone. In 2019 Bellacare Hospice came in to take care of mom in her declining years.
People from all walks and ages of life enjoyed her light-hearted company, and she always appreciated and thanked anyone who visited and spent time with her.
Lillian will be missed by her son, Claude and the many friends she has touched over the years with her curiosity about others, her cheerfulness and her playful sense of humor.
A video Service (no visitation) will be conducted on Thursday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus with son Claude Geeroms officiating. Lillian chose to be cremated and ashes distributed over a body of water. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice, or the uneaten cookie foundation, in her name.
