Lorna Lee Roth Shankland. In the presence of several family members, Lorna Shankland went to be with the Lord at the age of 87. A resident of Columbus, she quietly passed away at her home Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2011.
Lorna was born to John and Minnie Roth on October 15, 1924 in Woodsfield, Ohio. She is survived by three children: Dr. Wesley Shankland (Westerville, OH), Keith Shankland (Grapevine, TX) and Lisa Shankland (Gahanna, OH). She is also survived by five grandchildren (Wesley III (Rose), David (Amanda), Carrie (Jeremiah) Meeks, Benjamin and Keith II) and five great grandchildren (Emily, Wesley IV, Abbey, Evelyn (Meeks), Olivia and one baby Meeks on the way).
After graduating from Woodsfield High School in 1943, Lorna moved to Columbus and worked for Western Union from 1943 until 1951. Moving to Lima in 1957, Ohio, Lorna became very involved in the Women's Auxiliary of Lima St. Rita's Hospital, serving for a time as president of the Women's Auxiliary. Lorna worked tirelessly with the women of the Auxiliary to raise money and improve services for St. Rita's Hospital. She also had a catering service in Lima. Moving back to Columbus in 1980, Lorna was part-owner in two yogurt shops. She also worked for optician John Bell for several years as a receptionist.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home NE 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231 with funeral services directly afterwards at the funeral home at 12:00 PM. Interment will be at Blendon Gardens in Westerville.
The family would like to thank the wonderful care provided to Lorna by Heartland Hospice, specifically Cathy, Linda, Bette, Ashley and Reverend Deb. The family would also like to thank Julie Zachrich, Jenny Lydy and Fulla Girgis, all close friends of Lorna.
