Lou was born June 11, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio to William T. and Mary L. Grieszmer. He graduated from Central Vocational High School and attended the University of Cincinnati while working for Allen-Bradly Motor Controls and Cleveland Automatic Machine Tool Companies.
Lou joined the US Navy in 1952 as an Electricians Mate, took Boot Camp in San Diego (Mojave Desert), then on to Chicago for additional training for Electricians Mate, Firefighting and Damage Control, along with Boarding/Landing Party duties. He was assigned to the Fletcher Class Destroyer (Tin Can) USS Wren DD-568 for the next three and one half years. Along with the ship's crew, Lou brought the ship out of mothball storage to full combat ready. He, along with the ship's crew made many trips to the Mediterranean for systems checks and combat readiness. Additionally, they made an around-the-world cruise with a stop around Korea. During this trip Lou became a "Shellback", crossed the Equator, and became a "Golden Dragon" for crossing the 180o Meridian into the Far East. Honorably discharged in 1956, Lou returned to Cincinnati and worked at Burton Rodgers Technical Training Aids. He met Patricia Cadwallader of Cincinnati, then a student nurse at Jewish Hospital. They were married in 1958 and had three children, Jacqueline, Jennifer and Louis Jr (Butch).
In 1962 he headed north to Columbus and a position in a research/development Technical Training Aids Group at North American Aviation (NAA). As NAA evolved into NAR Rockwell, Rockwell and Rockwell International, he worked as a Design Engineer on several programs including Integrated Operational Intelligence Center (IOIC), T2 Trainer Fly-By-Wire, Fly-By-Light and FluidicFlight Control, Prototype XFV-12A, and the Hellfire Missile. He retired in 1990 after 28 years of service.
Retirement began an adventurous pursuit of travel and camping. He and Pat got a motorhome and with a group of friends formed a club. There were monthly trips throughout Ohio and neighboring states. Special trips to the Northeast for the "Leaf Peeper Tour", Mount Washington, north to see the wonders of Michigan. East to the coastal beaches, Williamsburg, Florida's vacation wonders, a great westward circle tour of the mountains, canyons, national parks and more. He was happiest when he could do things for friends and family from household repairs to building projects. He made many substantial additions and elegant improvements to the homes of his family as well as his own. Throughout his life he cared for his beloved "Best Friend", "Buddy", "Sweetheart", "Precious"…. his beautiful wife Pat.
In addition to Pat, his loving wife of 65 years, and his three children Jackie (Dan), Jenny and Butch, Lou is also survived by six beautiful grandchildren Jacob (Jennifer), Savannah (Steve), Amanda (Andy), Joshua (Laura), Billy (Rebeka) and Christopher. He was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren, Thomas, Katie, Ethan, Chloe, Sloan, Oliver, Liam, Landon and Piper.
