Lowell Edward Burgess, affectionately known as Eddie, was born on June 18, 1943 at Williamson Memorial Hospital, in the scenic town of Williamson, West Virginia. He departed from this world on September 1, 2024, in Whitehall, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy rich with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Eddie's life was marked by a profound commitment to both family and faith. His vibrant personality shone brightly through his contagious laughter, a hallmark that warmed the hearts of those around him. He was a personable man full of humor whose ability to bring joy to any gathering will be deeply missed by his grateful family and friends.
His military service in the United States Air Force began in 1965. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1969. He was stationed at Wadena AFS, Minnesota. This was a point of pride for Eddie, a testament of his dedication to his country. He loved to share stories from his time in uniform, recounting experiences that reflected his unwavering loyalty and honor. Eddie was a man of faith, actively engaging in fellowship meetings, and nurturing his spiritual beliefs throughout his life.
Eddie graduated from Williamson H.S. in Williamson, WV in 1962. He pursued his interest in business and attended Concord College in Athens, WV. He continued his education at National Business College in Roanoke, VA, and graduated with his business degree. Eddie completed his education at Franklin University, in Columbus, OH, in 1983 and earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration degree. Eddie worked as an accountant during his career and retired from Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, OH.
He cultivated a love for history. This fascination often led him on journeys to historical landmarks across the United States. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with family and friends, enriching their lives with the stories and connections he discovered. Among his many interests, tossing a football with his friends and watching football stood out, as did his love for good food-particularly steak and potatoes, spaghetti, and popcorn.
Family was at the heart of Eddie's existence. He cherished precious moments with them, such as when his daughters, April and Adora, fondly recalled visiting Washington, D.C., and witnessing the solemn change of guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. These memories encapsulate the deep bonds Eddie fostered, reminding his family of his unwavering love and support. He also had a very special bond with his sister, Judy, and they could almost be mistaken as twins because they were only one year and two days apart in age.
Eddie's journey was complemented by the love of family and friendships that spanned a lifetime. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Bertha Lambert Burgess, brother-in-law, Charles Barker, and nephew, Chris Skidmore. Also deceased, Lynn Segar, the mother of his children.
Eddie is survived by his beloved daughters, April (Mark) Henson and Adora (Roger) Huddleston. He leaves behind a devoted lineage, including grandchildren Tyler Johnson, Michel Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, Zander Huddleston, Makayla Henson, and Dawson Henson, as well as great-grandchildren Toryn Johnson, Anthony Johnson, and Vivienne Pottebaum.
His loving siblings, Judy Barker and Donna (David) Skidmore, along with nieces Debby (Joseph) Stacy, Beverly (Joseph) Vallone, and Suzette (James Farr) Skidmore, are left to cherish the memory of their dear brother and uncle, who touched their lives in immeasurable ways.
