Luther P. Arnold departed this life to be with his Lord in lasting peace and joy. He was 105 years old, born September 15, 1905, in Washington County, Abington, VA. Luther was raised in East TN in Sullivan and Washington County. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughter, Wanda Patton; son, James (Barbara) Beach; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Luther was preceded in death by his father, Milton Arnold; mother, Julia Chyphres; brothers, Garland, Worley, Hubert, Malcom, Elmer and George Arnold. He served his country in Panama, Iceland and fought in WWII in Europe and then in the Pacific. Luther also fought in the Korean War. He served from 1928-1955 retiring with 26 years as a Master Sargent. Luther was a member of Sharon Woods Baptist Church. He credited his life to no smoking, no drinking, and attending church. We will remember Luther in how he loved his family, his church and his mother and his support of her always until her death. Visitation will be Friday September 9, 2011 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus. Funeral services will be held in Phenix City, AL. Interment will be in Columbus, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tridia Hospice, 2215 Citygate Dr. Ste. E Columbus, OH 43219.
