THRESS
Margaret Alice Thress (Wilson), 85, of Columbus, Ohio died on September 16, 2010. Born in 1924 and raised in Zanesville, Ohio. Margaret's parents owned Wilson's Cash Market on Indiana Avenue in Zanesville. She graduated from Lash High School in 1943 where she met the love of her life, Ken, at the Senior Picnic. After serving as a Red Cross hospital volunteer during World War II, Margaret graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in Education and went on to work for 20 years as an elementary school teacher and reading disabilities tutor for Columbus Public Schools. Her greatest professional accomplishment was giving children the gift of reading. Her greatest personal achievement was her four children. Her joys in life included creative writing, reading, scrapbooking, antiquing, and playing with her grandchildren. Long time member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Columbus. Margaret and Ken enjoyed 20 years of retirement at Bay Aristocrat Village in Clearwater, Florida. She was Secretary of the Social Club and organized with Ken numerous park dances, musicals, holiday parties, & the Easter sunrise services.
Margaret demonstrated her lifelong love and commitment to God through her joy, great inner strength, radiating smile, and unconditional love for her husband and children. She was the spiritual center of the family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Kenneth Thress; four children, Tom (Linda) Thress, Cindy (Paul) Kalb, Andrew Thress, & Dan (Annie) Thress; 7 grandchildren, Casey (Katie) Thress, Lynn (Tom) Haines, Ben (Starla) Kalb, Megan Kalb, Kate Kalb, Solie Thress, & Leo Thress; 6 great grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, & Travis Kalb, Zachary Haines, Estella and Carson Thress; cousins Carol Blackstone and Doris Hendershott, and lifetime dearest friends Bob & Mary Kaiser. Preceded in death by parents, J.Lewis and Mary (Pitts) Wilson and sister, Joan Wilson of Zanesville; Aunt Emma Pitts, Aunt Lorain Penn, & Uncle Laysel Pitts of Union Township.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of the Columbus Alzheimer Care Center of Columbus for their love and support. Visitation Sunday, Sept. 19th from 2-4:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home , 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road in Columbus. Funeral is Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 1-2:00 pm at Margaret's childhood church, Brighton Presbyterian Church, 771 Lexington Ave., in Zanesville. Rev. Susan Skinner officiating. There will be visitation one hour preceding the service. Interment at Zanesville Memorial Park. Thank you Mom for everything. You did great!
