Margaret "Mokie" Elise Steiskal, 75, of Dexter, Michigan passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
She was born on March 15, 1948 to James, "Jim" and Carolyn Beal in Saline, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her father Jim, her husband Paul Steiskal, and her sister Mary Motz. She is survived by her husband of 4 1/2 years Harold "Hal" Losey, her mother Carolyn, her brothers George (Sharon) Beal & Fred (Nora) Beal; her children, Megan (Jeremy) Powell-Float, and Anderson (Morgan) Steiskal, her step daughters Shannon (Dave) Agar, and Shawn (Mike) Kennedy, her Grandchildren; Emerson Powell , Hudson Powell , Greyson Powell , Colton Powell, Shelby Steiskal, Camryn Steiskal, her step grand children Spencer Agar, Samantha Kennedy, Arden Kennedy, Izabel Kennedy, and Mackenzie Kennedy; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends and loved ones.
Mokie graduated from Saline high school in 1966. She then went on to Michigan State University, graduating in 1970 with a BA degree in Hospitality Business- later earning a lifetime academic achievement award in 2018 from MSU.
After college, she was working for Bill Knapps Restaurant, which brought her to Columbus where she met Paul- and they resided in Lewis Center to raise their children.
She worked as a registered dietitian at Mount Carmel and Riverside Methodist Hospitals for a few years and then began teaching in the hospitality department at what became, Columbus State Community College. She went on to get her MBA from University of Dayton, and then her PhD in higher education administration from Ohio University. She earned a role as a dean at the Columbus State community college where she stayed until she retired. She was an active member and past president (x2) of CHRIE (Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education) and has countless other awards, memberships and accomplishments.
But her pride and joy were her children and eventually her grandchildren. She loved watching them play sports, especially soccer. This is what fueled her lifelong love of soccer – she always knew which teams were playing when and where, and you know she was planning to watch.
After Paul passed away, Mokie reconnected with a High School love, Hal, and they were married in 2019.
She loved traveling and adventuring with Hal and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher and grandmother.
She truly enjoyed food, she loved both cooking and eating out. She also enjoyed her nightly perfect Manhattan on the rocks with a wedge of lemon.
She was so very loved, and will be dearly missed.
