Margene M. Harper, of Westerville, peacefully transitioned to heaven Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022 at age 89. Born 1933, in Willard, Ohio, she graduated from New Haven High School in 1951 and then White Cross (Riverside) School of Nursing in 1954. While there, she met James, the love of her life; and they were married in 1954 and then together 58 years. She was a devoted, loving and Christ-centered wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Preceded in death by parents Ferl and Bernice (Wood) Buckingham, step-mother Mildred (Hanvill) Buckingham, brothers Arden and Lee Buckingham, husband James, son Eric and grandson Edward Harper.
She was challenged with dementia the last decade of her life and is survived by her loving and supportive children, Philip Harper of Columbus, Karen (Jon) Wiant of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Janis (Gary) Cornelius of Galena and daughter-in-law Mirna Harper; sisters Ann Zeta Carpenter and Bernice Siegesmund; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Margene was a wonderful homemaker raising four children near Westerville. She eventually utilized her nursing training at Riverside Methodist Hospital in the maternity field. She was a faithful member of Central College Presbyterian Church for many years serving in countless ways.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 16 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43231. A service in celebration of her life will happen on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Rd., Westerville, Ohio 43081. Everyone is invited to Ballard Hall following the internment at Blendon Cemetery for a time of food, fellowship and sharing of memories.
