Marilyn J. Smith

November 29, 1930 — December 14, 2012

Marilyn J. Smith, 82, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly on 12/14/2012 at Riverside Hospital. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Helen Scarcliff and sister, Doris Schmidt.

She is survived by children; Mike (Joyce), Mark,Greg, Kim (Dennis) and Kent (Julie). Also surviving are 9 grandchildren; Michael, Laurie, Kristen, Erin, Brandi, Ryan, Tiffani, Jarrod, and Ethan; 14 Great Grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, whom she loved so very much.


Marilyn grew up in Havana IL, and at the age of 17 went to Washington, DC, where she worked for an Admiral at the US Pentagon. She then married and moved to Columbus OH in 1951 where she raised her 5 children. She retired from Meijer, working in Loss Prevention for 20 Years.

We all would like to give a very special thank you to all of her friends at Seton Square. You meant so much to her. Our thanks to Arlene for helping us through this trying time.

A service will be held in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens chapel, Friday, December 21, 2012, 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Our mother was the best and she loved all of us with all her heart. Mom, we love you and may you rest in peace. Until we meet again…always and forever…
