Marti Mizer, age 68, of Columbus, died September 4, 2021.
Marti was born December 28, 1952, to the late Bernard Zimmerman and Sara Jane England Zimmerman.
She graduated in 1970 from St. Peter's Catholic High School in Mansfield. She went on to graduate from The Ohio State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Marti worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. She also worked at an optometrist's office.
Marti's hobbies included reading, collecting recipes, and spending time with her pets. She enjoyed training the dogs they had over the years. She was a volunteer at the New Albany Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library for nine years. Her volunteer work was in the School Help Center where she assisted students in Kindergarten through 12th grade with homework assignments. School Help Volunteers often make an impact beyond homework assistance, building mentor relationships with students and helping them become advocates for their own education. As a mentor, Marti was dedicated to her students. Her passion and her enthusiasm for learning spread to her students.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Douglas K. Mizer; brothers, Theodore "Ted" (Jeannine) Zimmerman, Gregory "Greg" Zimmerman; sisters, Barbara "Bobbie" Zimmerman, Antonia "Toni" Watson and Veronica "Ronnie" Zimmerman; nieces, nephews, uncles, and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1970 and her father in 2013; and several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call on Sunday, April 10th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43231. There will be a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at a later date at the Newark Memorial Gardens in Newark, Ohio.
