Marvin E. Olney, 81, of Delaware, OH passed away February 20, 2013. Marvin was born in Grove City, OH on July 7, 1931.
He was a retired Fire Chief with 48 years of service, specifically 33 years Franklin Township and 15 years at Perry Township. Marvin was a devoted and active member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (Great Lakes Division), Ohio Fire Chiefs Association, Central Ohio Fire Chiefs Association, Franklin County Fire Chiefs Association, Central Ohio Retired Firefighters 4 Unit , International Association of Arson Investigators, past Director of Ohio Arson School, Director Emeritus, and Advisor to NAS-T, member of Southgate Potter Lodge F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, 32nd degree mason and Shriner member.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally Lou, parents, Oliver P. and Elma (Schlosser) Olney and great-granddaughter Elle Jane Meyer.
Surviving family includes, son, Michael (Kathryn) Olney of Delaware, OH, granddaughter, Cara (Brad) Meyer of Minster, OH and their children, Emma, Jack, Audrey, Grace, grandson, Ryan (Renee) Olney of Delaware, OH and their children, Brendan, Elyse, Tyler and Colin, sister, Bonnie (Dick) Miller and brother Melvin "Butch" (Sue) Olney.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm, Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
Funeral services will be conducted by Chaplain Larry D. Baker at 1:00pm, Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus Street, Grove City, OH 43123, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Grove City Cemetery.
