Mary E. Powers

Mary E. Powers, 97 formerly of Kent, Ohio gracefully passed on August 3rd at her home in Westerville. Preceded in death by husband, Martin, brothers Robert, George, and Phillip, and sister Patricia.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Elizabeth (Walter) Doyle and Judith Ann Landon. Her grandsons are Michael (Diane), Patrick (Jane), and Christopher (Joanna) Doyle, Joseph Landon, James (Jamie) Landon, and granddaughter Patricia Powers. Her great grandchildren are Drew Landon, Cailyn, Connor, Colleen, Kelli, and Katherine Doyle. Mary was Aunt to Robert (Rosie) Stewart, Elaine Melquist, Bill Stewart (deceased), George Stewart, and Patricia (Stan) Andrews.

Mary was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on March 15, 1915 to William and Elizabeth (Fahey) Stewart. Before her marriage to Marty in 1934, she was employed as a nanny for several years, caring for Phillip Sheridan, who became like a son to her. Mary and Marty moved to Ohio in 1941 and lived in Lorain, Norwalk, and Kent. She was a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain and was an active member of St. Mary's Church. In Norwalk Mary worked in the school cafeteria and was active in St. Paul's Church. While in Kent, Mary was a member of St. Patrick's Church and was often found caring for the Stevens' girls, whom she dearly loved. Always a hard worker, Mary never stopped taking care of others.

Calling hours will be held at Bissler and Son's Funeral Home on Saturday, August 11 at 12:00 pm with a Memorial Service beginning at 1:00. Burial will follow immediately at Standing Rock Cemetery.
