Mary "Lillian" Ramey, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2013 at Serenity House in Grove City, Ohio. She was born October 11, 1915 in Lewis County Kentucky to John and Clara (Gulley) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Garrison Anderson Ramey. She was also preceded in death by brother, Sanford Thomas, and sisters Opal Thomas, Dorothy Wilson, Irene Queen, Francis Vorhes, and Joyce Schnell.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy and her husband Alan Borchart of Orient, Ohio and Vicki and her husband Dr. Stephen Rose of Neenah, WI; grandson Matthew and his wife Becky Rose and son, James of Stoughton, WI, and grandson Andrew and his wife Jamie Rose and son, Kaeden, of Neenah, Wisconsin; sister Evelyn Wilbur of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.
Lillian and Garrison met while working at a shoe factory in Portsmouth, Ohio and were married on September 16, 1943 while he was in the service in Burbank, California. They lived in the Rosemount area of Portsmouth until 1956 when they moved to Columbus, Ohio. Lillian spent most of her life as a homemaker and was an active member of the Beechwold Christian Church in Columbus before moving to Grove City in 2003.
In the summers, Lillian filled her freezer with fresh fruit home-made pies. She was the designated pie maker amongst her sisters and a delicious Sunday dinner in her dining room (she was a great cook) would likely end with a delicious pie. Lillian's life happily revolved around family and friends. She outlived many of them, but still cherished her time with her daughters and their families. Her grandsons were her pride and joy.
The family wishes to thank the loving staff at Serenity House and Home Reach Hospice for all their devoted care to Lillian in her final months. Their patience, love and assistance are greatly appreciated by the family.
